Silk is a breathable fabric as the fibres allow air to flow through. This means that it helps you to stay cool in the summer. However, don’t be fooled, silk also helps to regulate temperature, making it a brilliant insulator too, meaning that you will stay warm in the colder weathers as well.
Hair and skin can also benefit from silk pillowcases. Due to the smooth surface of the silk, there is less friction than on your average cotton pillowcase, so there is less tugging on your skin while you sleep, which can cause wrinkles, and you’re less likely to wake up with frizzy ‘bed head’. This also helps to preserve your hairstyles, saving you time on your morning beauty routine.
Those with sensitive skin also find comfort from silk pillowcases. Silk is hypoallergenic and very soft, and so causes a lot less irritation than cotton alternatives.
Silk is less absorbent than cotton, so any creams or lotions that you put on your hair or skin will stay where you put it, rather than being soaked up by your pillowcase, meaning you can reap their benefits to their entirety.
Our glacé housewife pillowcases are made from 100% 25 momme grade 6A Mulberry silk. Being a 25 momme silk means that it has a higher weight and therefore density than lower momme silks. This makes it more durable and can give it a smoother feel. But don't worry, it won't feel heavy in the night.
Grade 6A means that it is the highest quality silk with both ‘6’ and ‘A’ being the highest on their respective scales. The other benefit, of course, is that with proper care, our 25 momme silk bedding should last longer, caring for you, while you care for it.

We always recommend hand washing our silk bedding, but it can also be machine washed at 30 degrees celsius or lower on a delicate cycle. For small items, use a fine mesh washing bag, and always use washing liquid and fabric conditioner made specifically for silk, to maintain its beautiful lustre. Make sure to line dry the silk bedding as it is not suitable for tumble drying.
