What is 'Mulberry' Silk

Mulberry Silk makes up roughly 90% of global silk production. But what exactly is ‘Mulberry Silk’ and how does it differ from other silk?
Mulberry Silk is made from Bombyx mori silkworms. They are fed strictly on the leaves of Mulberry trees. They spin a continuous length of silk thread for their cocoon, which is then harvested, creating raw silk. This is then weaved into silk material.
While this may seem like an easy job, rest assured that it isn’t. It takes about 2000 cocoons to create just one pound of silk - our silk bedding is 25 momme, meaning that 100 yards by 45 inches of our silk weighs 25lbs - that’s a lot of silk worm cocoons!
Other silks often come from silk worms who haven’t had such a strict diet, whereas those that have been feasting upon Mulberry leaves produce stronger and smoother silk threads, making for stronger and smoother fabric.
All our silk bedding and accessories are made from Mulberry silk, so you know that you are getting the softest and most durable silk available.
